Edward Glaeser | Humans, cities and the environment - Cities Are Making Us More Human | The European Magazine:

In India we have been romanticizing village life forgetting that since the beginning of civilization poets, writers have been praising city life, calling residents of cities Naagar, one who is cultured and whose tastes are refined. In contrast people living in villages have been called, Gamaar, rustic and uncultured.Dr Ambedkar called villages a den of superstition and vice, Gandhijee, on the other hand, eulogized village life and called for Gram Swarajya, self rule for villages.
