Christophe Jaffrelot being a French political scientist doesn't understand Indian society. Caste has played an eu-functional role in the society, its politicisation a dysfunctional role. Indian individualism is different from the Western one. In Indian philosophy individualism has been much glorified: sacrifice yourself for the family, sacrifice the family for the Kula, the Kula for the village, the village for the Rashtra and everything for Atma.
